Overdue, by Miranda Elaine, is a stand alone, friends to lovers romance that is both sweet and sexy and was so enjoyable to read.

sexy male firefighter

Griffin Thorne and Evangeline (Leni) Hughes have been next door neighbors and best friends since early childhood. They have been inseparable, their lives so intertwined, it was hard to believe that they had never taken their relationship any further. But they hadn’t. They both secretly desired the other but neither ever voiced their feelings, both too worried that if they did, they could lose their best friend.

Hair Women Red Freckles 32 New Ideas #hair

Griffin and Leni both grew up in the small coastal community of Scott’s Bay, North Carolina. Now as adults, they were each doing exactly what they always wanted to do. Griffin had followed in his father’s footsteps and was a firefighter. Leni, who lived for books, was the town librarian. Now in their late twenties, they still lived next door to each other, Leni still living with her grandmother, and Griffin having purchased his childhood home from his parents when they moved away.

When tragedy strikes Leni’s life, it’s Griffin who is there for her, who supports her. When they begin staying in the same house, it becomes harder and harder to keep their feelings to themselves. Is the risk too high? Can they chance an entire lifetime of friendship for the possibility of an entire future with the only person either of them has ever loved?

This was such a sweet book. These two so clearly were meant for each other. Leni was adorable with her love of her books and her quirky ways. I loved watching Griffin try to keep himself under control. But when their relationship finally began to change, oh my did I like the other side to Griffin. He was a sexy, swoony, dirty talker. If you want a book that will make you both smile and swoon, then this is for you!

Griffin and Leni grew up next door to each other and are best friends. As they crossed over the bridge of adolescence they both ‘noticed’ each other and developed secret crushes but never voiced them. The fear of ruining their friendship is what holds Leni back and Griffin is worried that she simply doesn’t feel the same way.

Leni is a self confessed bookworm, she has her dream job working at a library and lives with her grandmother. Her idea of bliss is chilling out in her room reading - I’m sure plenty of us can relate to that feeling!

Griffin is a firefighter and has a busy work roster. When he isn’t working he hangs out with Leni, watching their favorite shows and movies. On occasion he manages to get her to leave the confines of a building and be a bit social. They regularly have lunch together as the fire station is close to the library and they often have dinner together too.

To the outside world, they look like a loved up couple. They know each other inside and out, it’s pretty much a relationship without the intimacy. Everyone else can see that they are in love with each other except themselves. Leni has already experienced loss in her life and risking the loss of her incredible friendship with Griffin is not one she could survive.

When things change in Leni’s life once again, it’s a bit of a wake up call for both of them to be honest about what they are feeling and omg, it was worth the wait for all you patient readers :) This overdue coupling is more than either of them expected and almost feels too good to be true for Leni.

‘You can't just run away scared of everything difficult in life. You’ve been dealt a rough hand, but life can still be beautiful. Please stop letting fear get in the way of living your best life.’

This is a gorgeous low angst friends to lovers story that I eagerly gobbled up in one day!

4 Super Cute & Sexy Stars!

“That’s all I ever wanted to do, take care and protect her like she’s the most precious thing in the world because to me she is.”

“You are my sunrise and my sunset.”

Overdue has to be hands down one of the cutest and sweetest friends to lovers romance that I’ve in a while. Griffin and Leni grew up together and at first couldn’t stand one another. But, as time grew on, the developed one of the greatest friendships. They were each other’s rock, their person, the one they spent the most time with. So, it was only natural that they would both develop deeper feelings for one another, but be afraid of pursuing it.

One of the things I loved about this story was just how genuine and true Griffin and Leni were. There was no beating around the bush, no crazy over the top drama. Just a sweet story of friends that were in love with one another, but too afraid to take the next step. From the moment you meet Leni and Griffin, it’s impossible to not get swept up in their story. Their chemistry just oozes off the pages and those will they/won’t they moments will leave you begging for more. I’m not usually a big fan of the slow burn, but when done right, I can’t get enough of it. And let me tell you, this author got the slow burn right!

Overdue is the kind of book that you will devour in a single sitting and that will leave you with a big smile on your face. This book is like sunshine on a cloudy day. It’s sweet. It’s romantic with the perfect amount of drama to balance things out. It’s got just the right amount of steam and spice and a slow burn that will leave you bursting with anticipation.

Overdue is my first book by Miranda Elaine, and it certainly won’t be my last. I can’t wait to check out more from this author in the future.

This has got to be the cutest friends to lovers book I’ve read in a while.
These two were perfect!
Having known each other since childhood these two have done everything together. And sure enough have fallen in love in their adult years. Making the transition between best friends and lovers makes them both nervous. I understand. They done want to ruin something so special.
Leni is the cutest thing. Librarian is her job. She is the typical librarian. Sweet and loving under confidant. And he, Griffin is the sexy firefighter all the women drool over including Leni of course.
Their love is so pure. So romantic. So everything! I loved all of it!
Her grandmother Helen is the funniest character! So down to earth. So crass. You just have to love it!

I just love a good old BF to lovers trope and this book was one of the best I’ve read.

The friendship between Griffin and Evangeline and their transition to lovers felt effortless even with all the relationship fears she had.
It was clear for the beginning that these two belong together. The exchange of the first »I LOVE YOUs«??? Be still my heart!
And you got to love all the side characters that helped them to see how good they truly were together.

This story was a great past time and I’m excited to see what comes next. Hopefully is Parker’s story because that woman needs some good lovin'.

Nothing better than the nerdy librarian finding love in the arms of the hunky fireman - unless - the two have been best friends and fighting attraction from the first time they met. Griffin has always had feelings for the girl who lived next door, but Leni had placed him firmly in the best friend zone. For years he fought his feeling, but with one kiss the world tilted on it's axis. Can you really fall in love with your best friend? Are they willing to put their friendship to the test when the end result might be they lose it all? With beautifully written characters, Miranda Elaine tells the heart warming tale of an honest and true connection. Numerous times throughout the book I found myself sighing with happiness. The emotional connection just leapt off the pages. A wonderful friends to lovers romance.

Overdue by Miranda Elaine was all about sweetness and adorable emotions! This swoonworthy friends to lovers small town romance is a perfect feel good read that will instantly light up your day!

Town librarian Leni and firefighter Griffin has been best friends and neighbours almost whole life. Leni is the cute nerdy girl and Griffin is the sexy charming guy. They both have more than best friends kind of feelings but too afraid to act on them.

The author captured the beauty of small town romance nicely in this story. The small details. The helpful and friendly people. Amazing secondary characters like Leni's Nan who is a very colourful and mischievous person for her age. Leni is a sweet girl who loves books and quiet of her home. She has lost too much in life that makes her scary of losing someone else. Griffin is perfect. He is this guy who has everything going on right. Charming. Caring. Protective. Taking care of Leni. Gentleman through and through. They have this adorable witty sexy chemistry that will make you say "awwww" too often. This story is basically their journey from friendship to lovers. It was an easy and relaxing read. Not too much drama or tension. Just a happy read that will give you warm feels.

If you are looking for a romance that promises good time and good feels, Overdue by Miranda Elaine is definitely your choice.

Best friends to lovers book....

Swooooooonnnn.....I have to agree with another reviewer. Loved Overdue, it was such a swoony read!!

You know that TikTok video challenge where the guy or girl kisses their best friend? Well that is the vibes I got while reading this book. Friends to lovers and they can't decide if they're ready to cross that line. What will the other think if they confess that they both really like the other, just scared to let the other know their feelings.

Sooo yess, Overdue definitely is a slow burn read and like I said above...sooo swoony!!!

Another 5 Star read Miranda Elaine!!!

BTW-such a cute cover-fits perfect with this book!! : )

I've got one word: vanilla.

If that's to your taste, have at it.

If that's not, or you require a little more oomph to your ice cream preferences, then I'd pass.

And that's all I have to say about that.

3 stars!

A sweet, heartfelt small-town, best-friends-to-lovers story.

Griffin and Leni have been best friends since they were children. All through school and into adulthood they have shared their lives and been by each other’s sides, and for pretty much that entire time, they have been in love with each other. Neither of them have done anything about it, too scared to lose the special relationship that they have, so for years and years they’ve kept their feelings a secret and continued to live side by side (literally – they are neighbours).

There’s a lot of build-up, and we get to see lots of these two hanging out together, being there for each other, and mooning over each other. They have such a gorgeous friendship, and you can see how much they care for each other, and it’s so freaking cute. When drama strikes and Leni starts to fall apart, Griffin is there for her just like he always is, and they start to become a whole lot closer than ever before. It becomes impossible to ignore the feelings they’ve had for so long, and soon everything changes.

He’s frozen beneath my lips and regret fills me. I’ve ruined us. I pull back and try to get past him in the doorway. Ready to run. I need to get anywhere that isn’t here. Oh, God. What did I do?
“Oh, no you don’t.” He barely gets the words out of his mouth before he’s on me. I’m up against the wall. Silently staring up at his face. There’s a look in his eyes I’ve never seen before.
Desire.

It's been a slow burn, and such a long time coming. Their feelings are already so strong for each other, and I loved watching them finally give in to it all. There is some drama on their way to finding their happy ending, and though it’s frustrating, it is handled well. Leni has some pretty big walls around her and Griffin is so amazing through it all - truly devoted to Leni, and he had me swooning hard with his honest and open declarations.

“I just want you near me. I love you, Leni. I love you with my whole heart and I’m ready for whatever you need.”

I enjoyed the story, but I didn’t feel the butterflies that I was hoping to. I feel like I just needed a bit more, but I can’t pinpoint exactly what more I wanted. But it was gorgeous watching these two come together, and it’s definitely a sweet read.

It seems like there’s other stories waiting to be told for some of the side characters, and I’d be keen been to read those if this continued on to be a series.

A good read. 3 stars.

Original review: A Novel Glimpse

Note: This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased opinion.

This review is harder for me to write than I was expecting. Expectations are truly the issue here. I am a big fan of Miranda Elaine's Fixing series. That is a contemporary romance series filled with some big emotions. I went into Overdue expecting the same type of story, and that's not what it was. Overdue was a contemporary romance with a romantic comedy vibe. There were emotions, but it didn't feel as emotional overall. It wasn't what I was expecting, so I had to switch gears. That being said...

Miranda Elaine is a writer who knows how to pull me into a story. She makes me fall in love with her characters quickly. Firefighting, best friend Griffin was a sweetheart. I loved that he knew Leni enough to know when the time was right. He let her grow and that was swoon worthy. As for Leni, she could have been a token "special snowflake" character with her quirky dressing and love of books. She didn't come off like that way. Leni came off as someone who built walls around herself that was just waiting for the right person to knock them down. Obviously, her best friend was the person to do that. What I loved most about their relationship was that the friendship always came first and developed naturally.

Leni and Griffin were joined by some other special characters. Leni's grandmother was a hoot. I'm enjoying the trend of crazy, amazing grandmothers in books lately. Her new neighbors were a fun addition, too. I'm hoping Parker gets a book.

I only had one issue with Overdue. I didn't find Miranda Elaine's writing quite as seamless as I did in the Fixing series. Some of the words and sentences felt a little awkward to me. Maybe that was just a minor editing issue or a sentence structure preference on my part. The story also didn't flow quite as elegantly as I wanted. I'm going to blame it on the flashbacks. The flashbacks were cute and gave some insight into the past of the characters, but I am not big on flashbacks in a romance in general. They might have worked better all combined in a prologue or Part 1 for me. That's a personal preference, though. It's not like they took away from the romance or story. They enhanced it. I just preferred the present story line more.

So, yeah, not quite what I was expecting. That's okay because I ended up enjoying Leni and Griffin's sweet and slightly funny romance anyways. The time I invested with them was time well spent. Overdue is a romance I would recommend to readers who are looking for a sweet, upbeat contemporary romance.

Don’t you just love small town romances, where the heroine is a librarian… I love it. And this one was right up there for me. Totally enjoyed this book from start to finish.
Griffin and Leni were best friends and neighbors since childhood and all through teenage years. And even though they were super close they never took their friendship any further. Even though they both wanted the other.

Now they are adults, still neighbors, Griffin is a firefighter and Leni is the town librarian. When tragedy hits Leni’s life, the only one who supports her and she can count on is Griffin. And spending so much time with each other, is the risk too great to see where things may lead if they took their friendship further or will their entire life’s friendship be doomed if things don’t work out for them?

Totally sweet and cute and just freaking adorable. Loved it from start to finish and definitely recommending this one. Griffin was sexy, hot and totally a dirty talker and Leni was cute and quirky and together they were adorable. Read this book you wont be sorry

3.25 stars. Overdue has a cute premise. This is a small-town, best friends to lovers story about Griffin and Leni. The two have been best friends and next door neighbors since they were kids. Now as adults, he is a firefighter and she is a librarian, and they are as close as ever. The two share an attraction, but were not willing to risk their friendship. When Leni faces a family crisis, Griffin steps up to comfort her and they find they can no longer ignore their feelings for each other.

Ms. Elaine is a new-to-me author. I liked the story but had a hard time connecting to the writing style, personally. The story was cute, but the writing felt a little YA and the characters lacked chemistry. I didn't really understand why Griffin and Leni were so oblivious about their feelings for each other. Still, this was an easy read and was entertaining. The two made a cute couple and I was glad they finally admitted their love for each other.

Overall, this was a pretty cute read. I will try this author again in the future!

This was my first read by this author, and most of it was very cute and hilarious. I'm a sucker for a friends to lovers romance, and this one started off spectacular.. however once Leni and Griffen first acted on their feelings for each other, their chemistry must seemed to disappear. They had a really amazing buildup, but I didn't feel the excitement or joy about these two falling in love like I did the first half of the book. It could have definitely must been my own mood while reading it, but I just kept hoping for *more.*

All in all, this is a very cute book which I'm sure most will love.

5 SMOOCHES!

I love Miranda Elaine’s sweet, sultry storytelling style! Her writing is thoughtful and deliberate, and she never fails to pull me into her stories. Engaging plots come together in polished, perfectly paced, wholly addictive stories full of heart, heat and humor.

A delicious, slow-burning romance, Overdue pairs firefighter, Griffin, and his childhood best friend, town librarian, Leni. It was a light-hearted, easy-reading best-friends-to-lovers romance, and it wasn’t overly angsty, but the heroine had some major emotional baggage that held her back. Miranda has a great sense of humor that she used liberally throughout this story giving it a playful feel. Griffin was a swoon-worthy hero, but he was also a really great guy. He was Leni’s rock, her person, and the two of them had spent years pushing aside their true feelings in favor of protecting their special, one-of-a-kind friendship. When those feelings finally bubble to the surface and become impossible to ignore, it’s Griffin who gently and patiently guides them through it. Miranda always peppers interesting side characters in her stories, and she definitely added some wonderful ones here in Leni's grandmother and her neighbor, Parker, whose book I'm already looking forward to.

Once again, Miranda Elaine has left me fully entertained and thoroughly impressed with her writing. Overdue was a sexy and heartwarming story brimming with humor and endearing characters. This heartstring-tugging, heat-filled romance full of charming characters kept me smiling from cover-to-cover. I positively devoured this book, and I was not only left wanting more but also very excited about what will come next from Miranda. Five smooches from me for Overdue by Miranda Elaine!

This was a super quick read that I started last night and finished today. I used it for a PopSugar prompt as the main character is a small town librarian which I think is something I would love to be.

A friends to lovers romance which had some cheesy moments but since I read it so quickly, clearly it was not a terrible read, fairly short at 202 pages. I bet every girl would love to have someone so devoted to them as Griffin is to Leni.

Miranda Elaine has penned a beautifully, emotional story of two life-long friends who become lovers.

How I adore Griffin and Leni. Their relationship started off rocky as children, but soon the two became inseparable. Their love for each other grew beyond friendship, but neither would admit to the other their feelings for fear they'd lose their other half.

Leni the introvert, bookworm/librarian.
Griffin the outgoing, hot, firefighter.
The two shouldn't work so well together, but they very much did.
And the sexual tension was off the charts.
It was impossible not to want these two to find their way to each other.

And I'm so very glad that despite how Leni withdrawals into herself, SHE actually made the first move. With that one single kiss, it was game on for Griffin and their relationship wasn't the same after.

As with any great love story, their love doesn't come without complications. Will their relationship survive? You'll have to read it to find out.

Overdue drew me in from chapter one, and didn't let go. It pulled my heartstrings, and had me rooting for this couple the entire time. I highly recommend you pick up book and discover the beauty that is Leni and Griffen.

This was my first book by this author, so I didn‘t know what to expect. But it did not disappoint. I fell in love with the cover first but during this read I fell in love with the characters too. Especially Griffin! He‘s the perfect guy for Leni and the perfect bookboyfriend - Which Leni also confirmed.

I loved those little flashbacks to their childhood but their present is what matters. Leni is a bookworm through and through! She‘s been reading almost her whole life as an escape from her mothers illness.

Griffin is a rulefollower and the most helpful person ever. He‘s always been like that so it‘s natural for him to be a firefighter like his father.
Both characters have feelings for eachother since forever but are to afraid to admit it for different reasons.

This story is very cute. It was a perfect read for me and helped me through a possible bookslump.

Adult, Contemporary Romance, Friends-to-Lovers, Small Town

First Person, Dual-POV

This is a standalone book with HEA.

This was a sweet, good feelings romance with extremely lovable characters in a cute small town setting.

Yes, firefighters is definitely a key word for me. I see it, I want to read it! Here, the firefighter didn't disappoint at all, but I don't even know if he was my favorite character. The heroine was also very easy to love and her grandmother stole the show. She was the best secondary character ever. Yeah!

In fact, even though this says standalone, I can name a few others secondary characters that should probably get their own story. My matchmaker brain, even have paired up some.

UNDENIABLE LOVE!!!

31/35 STARS –  4 STARS (between 28 stars and 31 stars)

Addictiveness: 5 Character: 5 Cover: 4.5 Freshness: 3.5 Plot: 4 Romance: 4.5 Writing Style: 4.5

Action 2/5 Angst 2/5 Darkness 0/5 Humor 3/5 Romance 5/5 Suspense/Mystery 0/5

Would I recommend? Yes, for all readers of cute, small town romance!!!

Would I re-read this book/series? I think so!

Would I read more from the author? Yes.

Addictiveness: 5/5 These characters were so easy to love and connect that I became invested in their happiness really early in the story. This was a fast, easy read that I've finished in one sitting! As addictive as chocolate!!!

Character: hero 5/5, heroine 5/5, secondary characters 5/5, growth 5/5, real 5/5 Very complex characters with amazing background stories and great personal growth during the book.

Leni was a great heroine. She was shy and sweet, a great friend and a wonderful granddaughter. As a huge bookworm, she was very easy to connect to. She did have a few hangups that felt a bit juvenile, but I also no that traumas that haven't been treated may stop maturity growth in some people.

Griffin was book boyfriend material!!! I swear I'm not saying this because he was a firefighter, even though that helps on the hotness level. He just was an amazing guy, that every mother wishes for their daughter. He was a wonderful best friend, an even better boyfriend, a good son, good worker and hot as hell!

Secondary characters they were all relevant to the story, each having there one moment to shine here. In fact, Leni's grandmother was the best! She was fun, good and the type of support that everyone should have in their lives. There were a few others good ones and even a pair that I would love to matchmake. I mean, I think Parker and Jack could be a good couple. :)

Villain/antagonists even though one of the subplots has a clear villain, I don't think was the main conflict here. Mostly, they had to overcome personal problems to mature into a healthy relationship.

They were all easy to love, to connect and understand!!!

Cover: art 4.5/5, title 5/5, color-font 4/5, subtitle 0/5, background 5/5 buy 4/5  I’m obsessed with book covers. I love to find snippets of the stories within the art. I always try to be true to myself, I buy so many books because of the cover and I have skipped many because of not very appealing art. Covers are part of the experience for me and I do like to understand them. This one was a great one. Even though at first, I would say, that I was unsure about the colors and I also missed a subtitle that added a bit more of the story, after reading I must say it totally fits. It doesn't feel generic, as I can totally see Leni and Griffin here and the background with hints to a library is also really good. Oh, I love the title!!! I would easily buy this book by its cover without needing to read the blurb!

Plot: believable 5/5, conflict 3.5/5, dialogue 5/5, ending 5/5, enjoyment 5/5, opening 4/5, pace 5/5, setting 5/5, subplots 3/5, twists 2/5  Good opening with an incredible ending. Solid plot, with well written dialogues and perfect pace. Superb setting, a few subplots without any major twist. Good level of enjoyment!

This was a cohesive, good plot with a lovable setting, the small town of Scott's Bay in North Carolina.

I missed a bigger conflict moment, maybe a big twist of sorts, but at the same time, the psychologist in me, love internal struggles and maturity growth and the author made Leni's personal journey believable and very relatable.

Romance: believable 5/5, chemistry 5/5, description 4/5, development 4/5, steam 3/5  This is a true romance. From the first chapter we could feel their love for each other and were never in doubt if it really existed. Also, as much as I love a turmoil romance, the slow burn and pace here made it all believable. This was a sexy, but sweet romance. Everlasting romance!!!

Writing Style: 4.5/5 My first time reading the author and definitely not my last. Adorable characters, cohesive plot, enchanting romance, in a solid writing style. Great writing!!!

Because I try to be very analytical and I don't really believe in perfection...

Freshness: 3.5/5 This was a sweet, small town romance and it had all the usual clichés. That is not bad, at least for me, because I love a well written romance and I'm always able to fall in love all over again with each story. But I have to mention that there was no wow moment, no major twist that had me saying,.. oh, unexpected! As fresh as mint mentos at a movie theater.

I also have to say the subplot with the villain, felt a bit unnecessary for me. I don't know, it didn't really grow for me during the story, so it didn't feel like a climatic moment.

You MAY read this because you follow the author; you SHOULD read this because you like small town romance; you MUST read this because the characters were multidimensional and very easy to love!!!

Miranda Elaine brought a nostalgic feel to her readers showcasing all the things that make romance in a small town a great story.

Everybody knows everybody and most folks are connected in the world of Griffin Thorne and Evangeline "Leni" Hughes. Goals that might seem insignificant to many were cherished and never minimized where Griffin and Leni were concerned, each rejoicing in achieving their dreams of being a fireman and librarian in the small town they grew up in. Childhood best friends, this pair harbored an undisclosed attraction for each other, that played a major part in shaping this story, even as they continued to build a monumental friendship that could withstand anything including testing their attraction.

Griffin filled out all the stereotypical physical attributes of a hero but it was his understated sweetness and unconditional love of Leni that made him a special hero. Leni with all her eccentric behaviors was a lovable character that was hard to resist when glimpses of the treasure that she was peeked through. This author was subtle in her revelation of Leni's emotional baggage and did a wonderful job of reinforcing the strength of this couple's relationship as Leni struggled with her personal issues. The small well-established intimate habits this couple shared made their interactions unique and brought out how special their relationship was. As life brought its trials this pair found that their faithful friendship made any hardships they encountered manageable. A consistent simmer was felt throughout this work highlighting this couple's long-standing unspoken attraction to each other. Being vulnerable and making choices that were challenging showed the evolution of Griffin and Leni as people and as a couple.

It is important to mention the secondary cast of this work who were as charming as they were embracing. Their ribbing, good intentions and often not so subtle scheming to push this couple to act on their feelings made for some hilarious moments that offset the more serious ones.

This author was able to write in such a way that the everyday activities she described were interesting and brought to light the importance of the little things in life and in relationships. Miranda Elaine's ease at conveying kindness and bringing out inner strength made for some standout portrayals and really showed how underrated everyday life can be. Mundane yet charming dialog further emphasized the hometown feel of this story making it not only appealing but demonstrating just how special this writer's characters were because of their hometown devotion. Miranda Elaine's Overdue is the kind of story that makes you re-prioritize perspectives and appreciate simpler things and times showing readers that you do not need larger than life expectations or settings to feel fulfilled.

Loved this story! When I first read the blurb, I thought: hot firefighter, small-town librarian, friends-to-lovers - SIGN ME UP! And, I wasn't disappointed!

"If only she really knew how many rules I wish I could break with her."

Griffin Thorne and Evangeline AKA Leni Hughes were next-door-neighbours and reluctant friends as youngsters until they hit their teenage years, when they began a true friendship and became best friends. As adults, they still live next door to one another and still the best of friends, but their feelings run very deep.

"I love him. Always have. At night I dream he's mine to keep."

When life throws Leni a curveball, she finds herself living with Griffin and, suddenly, all those bottled-up feelings are in danger of letting loose. But, is it worth the risk to her heart that has already suffered so much loss?

"I'm desperate for her touch. I need to feel her up against my body, her hands tangled in my hair. I need it all."

I adored this story. It was sweet, sexy, humorous and really heart-warming. Griffin was such a sweetheart. I absolutely loved him. Underneath his supportive, caring friendship was a potent desire for his best friend. He trod carefully and was willing to have her in his life in any capacity but he'd always hoped for more. He was loyal and protective. He made me swoon and he was super sexy once he got her right where he wanted her. Leni was sweet, skittish and tentative, and my heart broke when she let her fears get the better of her. This author was new to me and I thought this was a fab, feel-good read with a gorgeous ending, and I look forward to reading more from her.

Loved this book. A great friends to lovers romance. This is always one of my favorite tropes. Loved Leni and Griffin. We got to get glimpses of when they first met when they were younger and it was fun watching them grow into the best friends that they became as teens and adults. They were so good together. Fun banter between them. Loved watching them realize that what they have been looking for has been in front of them the entire time. This is why I loved friends to lovers because they already see the good in the person who is the one for them.

Overdue by Miranda Elaine

‘“I love him. Always have. At night I dream he’s mine to keep,” I admit in one breath before throwing my hands over my mouth. I can’t believe I just admitted all of that.”’

There are tropes that I enjoy reading, then there are the tropes that I love so much that I actively seek them out, and one of those tropes in particular is the best friends to lovers. There is something so utterly sublime about this little plot bunny. Especially when you have an author as talented as Miranda Elaine at the helm. She has managed to not only capture, expand upon and deliver a wondrous love story between two lifelong friends, she has also managed to do it in a beautifully subtle, truly alluring way. You don’t realise how captivated you are until you look up at the world around you and see that you’ve finished the entire book in a day.

I really loved it because it wasn’t one of those full-on, ‘I’m biting my fingernails off with angst overload’ kind of romances. The drama and weighty matters were there on the peripheral, something for the characters to work through together, not a superficial plotline for the protagonists to have to suffer through and push up against. I never felt like the storyline was taking attention and energy away from the real focus, and to me that was the developing and intricate relationship that Leni and Griffin shared. From enemies to friends and eventually friends to lovers. Their journey was a magnificent slow-burn of friendship, tension, teasing and flirtation, solidified by emotions, heartbreak, life and loss. They each held this secret longing, harbouring it away from the other, it’s once those insecurities and walls start to crumble down around them, that the real fun begins.

‘He’s frozen beneath my lips and regret fills me.

Desire.’

If you are in the mood for a feel-good romance, then you need Overdue in your life! With its wonderfully quirky and absolutely adorable librarian, and a devastatingly handsome yet super sweet fireman - two best friends on the precipice of falling head over heels in love - you need to take a chance on this bewitching and beautifully penned romance, from author Miranda Elaine. It was a darling love story, peppered with enough drama and angst to keep things very interesting.

This is the quintessential friends-to-more romance. It’s overly sweet with so many missed opportunities. The pining and longing for something more with the over consuming fear of losing a part of you if you act on it.

I have ever related to a fellow book lover than Leni. A girl who would rather be reading and gotten lost in a fictional world than the real one and never leaves the house without a back up book and a kindle. She was relatable and kind. I enjoyed her growth throughout the story and watching her overcome obstacles.

Griffin was a lot of fun. One of my favorite aspects of this story was seeing his point of view, especially when they were younger. I loved seeing the beginnings through his eyes since the present was mainly through Leni’s. He was kind and the type of guy you want by your side.

I did find myself losing interesting towards the end and skimming the pages. I found the end to be irritating because of how things unfolded. I didn’t understand why or how certain actions were warranted. Things became repetitive and I just wanted to shake the character and open their eyes to their mistakes. I was surprised by the amount of steam that resonated within these pages. A majority of the time the story was sweet to the point where it was Hallmark movie material, then it would veer a sharp turn where the dialogue would be crude and unexpected.

Overall this was an OK read for me. I love the characters, especially the meddling grandmother, but the end of the story and the misplaced steam took away from the parts I really enjoyed.

This book is a small town friends to lovers romance, everyone knows everyone and their business. Leni and Griffin have known each other since they were kids after Leni and her mum moved in with her grandma next door but it wasn't until Leni lost her mum that her and Griffin became friends. Griffin is a firefighter in their small town and such a sweetheart and a complete goner for Leni, he would do anything for her no questions asked. Leni is the town's librarian, she's a complete introvert always choosing a book over a night out, but she really comes to life when it's just her and Griff. Over the years feelings grow but rather than act on them and ruin their friendship they both bury them deep and hide them from each other, until that is when one of them makes the first move.

They have chemistry and the sexual tension is hot but I feel like after their first passionate kiss it vanished, I'm probably in the minority that think that but I just felt like the passion died and when they finally slept together it was pretty lack lustre, i just wasn't feeling their connection anymore.

Leni and Griffin have been best friends for years. After a bumpy introduction as children they grew to be each other's closest confidant.

Leni is the ultimate bookish heroine, often choosing to read instead of socialize. She works as a librarian and leads a small, quiet life with her grandmother. Leni lost her mother at a young age and carries the fear of losing people heavily on her heart. This fear keeps her from letting Griffin know her true feelings, not wanting anything to take away their friendship.

Griffin has been in love with the girl next door for a long time. He knows that Leni isn't looking for more from him...yet. But this hot fireman is willing to wait.

This friends to lovers romance had me smiling, laughing, crying and blushing! I loved how sweet and soft Griffin was, he is total book boyfriend material 😍 Leni's bookish ways were so relatable, she gave me Nina Hill vibes.

The side characters were well developed and hilarious. Leni's grandmother, Nan, was so sassy I would be game to sit and have a drink with her!

This was my first time reading this author and I will definitely be reading more- Overdue will have a spot in my favorite books of 2020 🥰

Overdue was a sweet friends to lovers read that had two characters that really belonged together. The type of relationship that they had I absolutely adored and you could tell how much they meant to each other. This story really gave me the feels and was very sweetly written. The writing was really well done and it really showcased the emotions of the characters on the story.

Leoni I absolutely love in the story and could really relate to her. She was such a sweet character that preferred the company of the characters in a good book over other people. But the relationship she had with her Nan and Griffin I loved. It was obvious how much they meant to her and how much she loved them.

Griffey was the good looking firefighter that completely adored Leni. He was the opposite of Leni by being really out there and social but that didn’t stop him from staying in with Leni to watch a good movie or binge a tv series. I abolish loved him and found him to be perfect for Leni.

I really loved how the author wrote the story in both characters point of view so readers could tell they both had feelings for the other. I really loved the flashbacks to see how they became friends. This was an enjoyable friends to lovers read that I recommend.

This is the first book I've read from Miranda Elaine, but it will not be the last. Being a reader and a bit of a introvert myself, I quickly fell in love with Leni. And who wouldn't love a hot firefighter Griffin.

Griffin and Leni have known each other forever and been best friends for most of that time. He was her rock when her mom died. She loves him, but knows they cannot cross the line she dreams about. She would never survive if their friendship was strained, or worse yet, destroyed.

Griffin has loved Leni for years. He dreams about her. About what they could be. But like Leni, he knows they can't. Their friendship is too much of who they are to put it on the line.

Add in a meddling grandmother and new neighbors and you can only imagine what happens. A sweet and fun best friends to lovers story that will make you smile.

I received an free copy of OVERDUE to review as I see fit. First off the a title couldn’t be any more perfect than it is. This funny, loving story of two people who are perfect for one another but afraid to spoil what’s already amazing is heartbreakingly beautiful. Leni is the bookworm next door who was thrown into Griffins life at a young age and he hated it, until....he didn’t. If you are looking for a sweet romantic will they, won’t they story...then this is the book for you. It’s got tragedy, passion, and so much more. I loved every sec of Griffin and Leni’s story. I loved the fun life loving Grandma, Helen. Oh man, she made the story pop. You guys seriously don’t wait. Get your copy on Oct 8th!!!! You won’t regret it!

This was my first book by this author, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Let’s just say that every expectation and hope was surpassed. Leni and Griffin were just perfect, both for each other and in general. They were utterly realistic in their angst of forced friends to friends to best friends to lovers that I found my own heart hurting when they were almost destroyed. Griffin was nothing if not a supportive man to the woman and best friend he loved more than anything, and he didn’t pull the moves so many men normally do in this situation in other books. Oh, no. He stayed strong and true and wasn’t afraid to let his heart break if it meant Leni would finally heal. And with the help of an unexpected friend in Parker, she managed to find her way.

I’d love to see a series stem from this book. Parker, Jack, Shane...crazy Nan. I’d so read more about any of them, with glee.
