"It's pure new adult at its finest." -Southern Belle Book Blog

A USA TODAY bestseller!

When you become the poker prize, all bets are off...

Jade Frost thought she was going on a date with her boyfriend--not to his poker game.

She really didn’t expect that weasel to throw her in the pot.

Then he had the nerve to lose. Talk about the perfect excuse for Jade to make him her ex-boyfriend. She wasn’t quick enough, though. Before she knows it, a frat boy wins the hand--and her.

Shep Prescott is extremely handsome and richer than sin, but he doesn’t own her. It was just a game, after all.

No matter how disinterested she acts, no matter how rudely she rejects his advances, he keeps coming back. Maybe even more than before.

He could have anything he wants, but she’s the only prize he’s after. When she finds herself starting to fall for him, Jade’s confused. There’s more to Shep than the carefree player he shows the world.

So is he ready to win her for real, or will she call his bluff?

"It's pure new adult at its finest."-Southern Belle Book Blog
"And while there were about a thousand places where this story could have gone down some all too familiar paths, Monica Murphy keeps it fresh and real throughout."
-Ysar (reader)

"Monica's writing is on par as always, she knows how to highlight comedic situations and give the story more meaning with a bit of drama to break up the equilibrium but as always her ability to create a beautiful romance never falters yet again proving why she is still one of my go-to authors."
-Nicole McCurdy (reader)

" It made me laugh, it made sigh and it made blush."

He thinks he’s got a winning hand but he’s out of money so he offers up Jade to seal his bet, only he loses and Jade is pissed. Shepard, aka Shep, is the man whore of the college, ”one and done” is his motto. He wants to collect on this bet but Jade wants nothing to do with him. She beaks off with Joel and just wants to get thru this school year. Shep keeps popping up in unexpected places and they start to become friends. She has performance anxiety and as attracted as she is to him every time they are alone something or someone interrupts them. Jade and her friend Kelli are bored. Their boyfriends drug them to an underground gambling house run by Shepard Prescott. He is two years older than her and the total opposite. He's in a frat...she's not in a sorority. He's rich...well, she's definitely not. His arrogance and smugness cancel out his gorgeousness as far as she's concerned.

Evidently, he and his friends are famous for their gambling. They play big so they win big, but they also lose big. Which is what their boyfriends are hoping for. Her boyfriend Joel looks over at her when he hears her annoyed sigh looking stressed. He's looked stressed a lot lately. Instead of spending the money his parents send him, he spends it on stupid extravagant stuff he doesn't need.

Shep was bored because he knew he was going to win, but the sassy redhead he was watching in the mirror was making it more interesting. Until he saw her making a gesture. Had the guy really brought his sexy girlfriend to the game so he could cheat? The woman who doesn't realize he's heard her saying all the awful things about him.

Shep throws in his winning hand and makes her come sit next to him as he deals a fresh hand. Telling her if she looks at her boyfriend he will automatically lose. He's enjoying pissing her off. It's making up for the boring night. Shep decides to make the game more interesting. Shep suggests they bet on Jade. If he loses he'll pay Joel an ungodly amount of money. If he wins he gets jade. Her threats to Joel's person if he makes the bet are very creative and even he cringes.

Joel ignores her and asks what ungodly amount. When Shep tells him fifty thousand dollars, Joey's eyes bug out. Jade is outraged they would dare bet on her but it didn't keep Joel from taking the bet. Joel places his cards down and smugly goes to grab the pot..full house aces and kings high. Shep reminds him of protocol and Joel sits back.

Shep lays his cards down one at a time. 6 of Hearts, Queen of Spades, Queen of Hearts, Queen of Diamonds....a huge pause...and he lays his final card on the table...Queen of Clubs.

I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. I love Shep and Jade's story! Jade is feisty and pulls no punches in dealing with Shep. She doesn't care that he's rich. To her, he's just an a$$hole man-whore. Shep is enthralled with Jade. The first woman to ever ignore him and want nothing to do with him or his money.

This book is action-packed from page one. I love Shep and Jade's relationship...she wants him despite his reputation...he wants her despite his rules about women. This book is steamy hot and Shep turns out to be surprisingly romantic.

    Highly recommend!

Another hit by Monica Murphy! The synopsis of this book intrigued me and I knew I had to read it. I mean.. having your boyfriend bet you in a poker game and then losing? Sounds intriguing right?!

We meet the spit fire that is Jade as she's waiting for her boyfriend to finish his poker game so she can get out of there. She starts to mock the "amazing" Shep who is the bad boy, man whore, filthy rich guy who her boyfriend is playing against. When things get interesting, and Shep ups the stakes, and Jade is now part of the bet. To say that things don't go the way Jade was hoping is an understatement. I loved how she left Shep after that game!

Jade really wants nothing to do with Shep, but he continues to pursue her in hopes that maybe he can get her to talk to him without blowing up. Shep has always been a one and done kind of guy, but there is something about Jade that he just can't stop wanting. I loved how she accused him of stalking her, when he kept showing up where ever she was. He was definitely eager to get her to talk to him, and I enjoyed how he didn't give up on the spit-fire that was Jade very easily.

Kelli, Jade's roommate, I really enjoyed. She always seemed to know what to do or what to say to make Jade see Shep, and she pushed Jade to do things she didn't want to do knowing that in the end Jade would thank her. Now, I'm not sure I can say the same for Shep's friends. Gabe and Tristan.. I really didn't like these guys at first, they gave Shep so much crap for his feelings for Jade, but they did come around towards the end, and I'm excited to read their books now to see what girls can tame these two crazy men.

I loved the tension between these two, and the constant bickering between them? Definitely had me laughing out loud. Shep is out of his league and out of his element with Jade, and Jade is fighting very hard to deny what she wants, which is Shep. I really enjoyed these two once they finally decided to give in to what they both wanted. When Shep does something completely stupid though.. UGH I wanted to punch him, but Jade definitely finds a way to get him back and in a way see his true feelings about her.

Shep and Jade have a unique relationship, and are both moving into uncharted territory. Shep has never had a real relationship, and Jade well she doesn't trust easily and isn't used to having someone who actually cares about her. These two definitely have some struggles, and some definite hiccups along the way, but I really did enjoy their story. The ending of this book and the epilogue... AMAZING!

Monica Murphy wrote an amazing new adult story that will have you falling in love with the bad boy on campus and wishing we all had a Shep in our lives!

    Loved, loved, loved this book!

Jade is a freshman in college. A beautiful redhead from an ordinary background. She gets dragged to an illegal poker game by her boyfriend. And ends up being the stake in a round that he loses.

Shep is the one that wins her. He’s one of the gorgeous, rich owners of the gambling business . He’s a junior and has a ‘one and done’ rule when it comes to women. However, the minute he sets eyes on Jade, he’s captivated. Add in the fact that Jade is thoroughly unimpressed with him, and the chase is on.

She’s never met him before but, all of a sudden, he’s everywhere. She can’t deny her attraction to him and he gradually breaks down her reserve.

I loved Jade! She’s sassy and sarcastic and she has no idea how beautiful she is, and is completely mystified by Shep’s interest in her, especially when he can have any girl he wants. Shep find himself acting out of character and liking it! I loved his moments of vulnerability where Jade is concerned, and I was pleased that he was willing to go the distance, even though he wasn’t quite sure of the end destination. Adored this book! Such a great author!

I loved this book! Both Jade and Shep are well-developed characters, and their relationship is both realistic and swoon worthy. I love books that somehow manage to be both spicy and slow burn, and this book doesn't disappoint! It’s almost comical how Jade tries to resist Shep, and every time he makes headway with her, they get interrupted. Too funny!
I loved this book and I can’t wait to read Gabe’s love story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fair Game
Reviewed in Germany on October 25, 2016
A few years ago I read Monicas first 2 books of the One Week Girlfriend series, and I was excited. Since then I have read many books of this YA/Romance/Love story genre, but I have found very few which come even close to those two. I have also read many of Monicas other books, some I liked very much, others less. Now I came across Fair Game and I am excited again! It’s difficult to compare with OWGF and for some reasons, to which I will come back later, it may not come fully equal to OWGF, but I can say that I really, really liked this book. I loved both main characters (how can you really not love them?), the way how they developed from initially more or less hating each other to starting first contacts, meeting, dating and finally loving each other was described in way that I could easily follow, understand and, much more importantly, believe and comprehend. I like the way how Monica describes the erotic scenes, they are never violent or vulgar. And I liked that the heroine Jade was not the self-conscious, always whining girl, that never objects, always gives in, never knows how to react and stand their ground. She even starts with slapping Shep heavily in the face.

I do have a few critical points: I would have liked to see the pair more often in real life situations and not so much just only in the bed. And I definitely think the book is too short, even with its more than 400 pages. As usual in this genre you get your Happy Ending finally, but what you don’t get is a Happy Ever After (HEA). Let’s be realistic: the two are 19 und 21 years old, both are still in college, and their surroundings do not provide any safe ground for their future. Sheps parents are a complete disaster and they completely reject and disapprove Jade, and Jades mother doesn’t even know of their relationship and love. I would therefore like to encourage Monica to write a sequel to this story, I would really love to see how this develops further.

However, I can really recommend this book, I easily give the full 5 stars. I am sure, everyone who liked the One Week Girlfriend series will like this book too.
